Mental Health and Wellbeing

So many people each year are affected by their mental health, but not everyone lets it show if they are struggling mentally or emotionally.

Here at VTS, we understand the importance of your mental health and wellbeing…

That’s why we have Jade, our wonderful mental health support officer who is available to speak to any of our learners who may be struggling with their mental health.

Top tips for looking after your mental health:

  • Prioritise self-care and do things that make YOU happy.
  • Don’t suffer in silence. Although not always easy, ask for support, allow others to help you.
  • Self-acceptance. Don’t try to adjust who you are to suit other people. You are good enough exactly as you are, learn to love yourself.

Self care can be as a little as going for a walk, reading a book or anything that gives you time to focus on yourself.

Having a plan or setting goals to work towards is positive, but these don’t need to be perfectly in place by a specific date. No matter what time of year you decide to incorporate healthier habits into your life, here are some tips to help make the most and give you the best start – read the Blog here.

Mental Health Foundation - Managing Mental Health as a Parent (co-regulation)

Being a parent can be incredibly rewarding but also challenging. When we’re focused on nurturing and supporting our children, we can overlook the importance of our own mental health as parents. But the two are very much intertwined. And that’s where co-regulation comes into it.

Put simply, co-regulation means responding to someone else’s emotional state. Learning to regulate our emotions can help parenting, help ourselves and our children. Read the Blog here for some information on coping with our children’s and our own big emotions.

The Mental Health Continuum

The mental health continuum is a model that illustrates mental health as a dynamic range from ‘excelling’ to ‘in crisis’, helping to identify where individuals may fall on this spectrum and what support they may need.

If you would like a little extra support or advice, do not hesitate to let your assessor know and they will refer you to the lovely Jade for a chat (whether that’s through the phone, face-to-face, email, text – whatever suits you!)

Jade will listen to your concerns and provide you with tools, resources, websites and phone numbers to support your mental wellbeing. Our service is not for therapy, but for support on how to get the help you need, and to provide a listening ear.
