Childcare Diplomas

Working in childcare gives you the opportunity to play a vital role in the growth and development of young children, helping to ensure they learn, thrive, and are kept safe. A well-trained and skilled early years workforce is essential for giving pre-school children the best start in life.

If you are already working in childcare and want to gain a work-based qualification, there are several options available. While government funding is often available for apprenticeships, you can also choose a nationally recognised, industry-approved stand-alone qualification with VTS. This route offers unique benefits, such as:

  • No minimum timeframe to complete your qualification — you can progress at your own pace, often faster than traditional apprenticeship routes.
  • No requirement to be employed for a set number of hours per week — you can even study as a volunteer, provided your duties align with the qualification.
  • Your employer does not have to financially contribute to your study.
  • No need to study maths or English as part of this qualification.

Your learning will be structured with a personalised plan, and your VTS tutor will provide regular support and guidance. You’ll build a portfolio of evidence that includes your completed work, professional discussions, and tutor observations. Once your portfolio meets the requirements set by the awarding body (City & Guilds), you will achieve your qualification.
