Guy Fawkes Night – 05/11/2024
Its history begins with the events of 5 November 1605, when Guy Fawkes, a member of the Gunpowder Plot, was arrested while guarding explosives the plotters had placed beneath the House of Lords.
The plot was foiled, and since then, Britons have marked the occasion with fireworks, bonfires, and the burning of effigies of Guy Fawkes. Bonfire Night is a time for community gatherings, family fun, and spectacular firework displays. While it has historical roots, today’s celebrations are largely focused on enjoying the dazzling displays of light, warmth from bonfires, and the spirit of togetherness. It’s an event that brings people outdoors to embrace the crisp autumn air and the excitement of the fireworks.
