HELLO & WELCOME
What can VTS offer my staff?
We specialise in delivering high-quality, work-based training qualifications across Essex. Formerly known as NVQs, these qualifications are now offered as apprenticeships or stand-alone diplomas/certificates.
We deliver training directly in your workplace, so your staff don’t need to attend college regularly. All qualifications are fully accredited, nationally recognised, and directly relevant to your sector.
What subjects do VTS offer?
We have qualifications available from levels 2 – 5 in Childcare, Adult Social Care, Healthcare, Teaching Assistant in Schools, and Management in different settings. Please take a look at our courses pages for more information.
Apprenticeship or stand-alone diploma?
In recent years, apprenticeships have been reformed and are now the government’s preferred model for work-based training, with the majority of funding and incentives focused on them.
What is an apprenticeship?
An apprenticeship is a job with a structured learning and skills development programme, lasting one to two years and tailored to both the employee’s role and your business needs. Alongside on-the-job training, apprentices receive dedicated ‘off-the-job’ time to work toward industry-recognised qualifications, including maths and English if it is applicable.
Who can be an apprentice?
Anyone—new or existing staff—can enrol, regardless of age, provided they work at least 16 hours per week and meet basic eligibility criteria.
How will I benefit?
Apprenticeships build a skilled and motivated workforce, improving service quality, strengthening your reputation, and increasing demand for your services.
What will it cost me?
-
Levy-paying employers: The full cost is covered by your apprenticeship levy funds (subject to availability).
-
Non-levy-paying employers: The government currently funds 95% of the training cost, with you contributing just 5%.
See our funding pages for full details.
Incentives for employing young apprentices
The government provides additional financial incentives for employing apprentices aged 18 or under. For current schemes, visit our funding pages.
Will I be involved?
Yes. Apprenticeships work best through partnership. We’ll create the training plan and provide full support, while you’ll help your employee by supporting their development and meeting agreed guidelines. We’ll explain everything clearly and support you at every step.
Free recruitment service available
Looking to hire a new apprentice? We can help you recruit through the government’s ‘Recruit an Apprentice’ platform. We’ll advertise for you and forward applications that meet your criteria. If you’re interested, simply get in touch.
Stand-alone diploma/certificate
If an apprenticeship isn’t the right option, your staff can still gain nationally recognised qualifications through stand-alone diplomas or certificates. These are fully accredited and industry-relevant.
Please note, these qualifications aren’t government-funded. Costs can be covered by you or the employee, and some Level 3+ qualifications may be eligible for a 19+ Advanced Learning Loan. See our funding pages for details.
